A man who used his girlfriend as a human shield to escape from his wife’s abusive boyfriend is the man who exploited her and tried to get her into a job.
Gabbie Carter was sentenced in the Queensland Supreme Court on Monday to 12 months’ jail for the 2014 attack.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful restraint, four counts of making false statements and two counts of obstructing justice.
He also pleaded guilty not guilty to another offence, which he said was not related to the alleged incident.
In court, he said he was a victim of domestic violence and had been the victim of an attack.
The man was also ordered to pay $2,000 to the woman.
“I was just trying to help her escape, I don’t know why I let her go,” he said.
“It was very dangerous and I shouldn’t have done that.”

Gabe Carter’s first victim was on his way to work when he was allegedly abused.
Gabe, 40, was a full-time carer for his wife.
“He was an incredible guy,” he says.
“But I just got tired of it.
I felt like my life was going to end.”
The man said his wife was abusive and he had been “the victim of a terrible crime”.
“She made me a victim, that’s what I’m going to say, that was her,” he explained.
“She was the one who got me in trouble with her boyfriend, she was the person that got me into trouble with my parents.”
He also admitted he had stolen the couple’s car and assaulted them with it.
“The car was in my name, I didn
